This POS and store equipment payment calculator estimates the monthly payment and the total cost, including the down payment, from the equipment price, down payment, interest rate and term. Firspring Capital, a small-business funding broker in Sioux City, Iowa, offers it to Woodbury County retailers as an arithmetic check only, not an offer or a prediction of terms.
What to enter
- Equipment price: the quoted price of the terminals, scanners, printers, cash drawers, shelving or cases.
- Down payment: what you will pay up front, if anything.
- Rate: the annual interest rate from an offer you hold, or a number you want to test.
- Term: how many monthly installments the vendor or partner quoted.
The result shows the monthly payment and the total cost of the equipment, down payment included.
Checking the arithmetic yourself
Multiply the monthly payment by the number of payments, then add the down payment. That should equal the total cost shown. Subtract the equipment price and you have the cost of financing over the term. Do the same sum with any offer you receive; if the offer's total is higher, ask what the difference covers.
What the calculator does not do
- It does not show lease payments or lease buyouts. For a lease, ask the lessor for the total of all payments plus the buyout.
- It does not include delivery, installation, software subscriptions or taxes unless you add them to the price.
- It does not show weekly or daily payments; divide or multiply by hand if an offer is quoted that way.
- It does not predict what a partner will offer.
Where the rate in the box comes from
Use the rate printed on an offer, not a figure from an advertisement. If an offer quotes only a payment and a term, skip the rate box and compare totals instead: the offer's payment times the number of payments, plus any down payment. Some vendors bundle the POS hardware with a software subscription billed separately. Keep the subscription out of the price and add it to your monthly budget by hand.
Why Woodbury County, IA retailers price this first
Retail trade had 388 employer establishments in Woodbury County in 2023, the most of any sector, and 34.5 percent of them had fewer than five employees (U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns 2023). For a small store, a checkout system or a run of refrigerated cases is a large purchase, and knowing the monthly figure before talking to anyone makes the conversation shorter. Equipment financing explains loans, leases and finance agreements, and inventory financing covers the stock that goes on the new shelves. More tools and guides are on the resources hub.
